Rental Realtors meet with coastal communities before summer season

May 20, 2017

The Sussex County Association of Realtors Rental Affairs Committee and the coastal communities of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany, Fenwick Island, Millville, Ocean View and Milton held their third annual preseason meeting May 4 at Irish Eyes in Lewes. Sharon Palmer-Stauffer, rental manager for Coldwell Banker Resort Realty, and chair of the committee, said, "Today's meeting was an excellent example of Realtors and local members of law and code enforcement officers working together for the good of the communities in which they serve. It was a very productive and informative meeting."

Each town that participated had an opportunity to share with the group any seasonal issues they encounter, and their solutions and proposals set forth to address the issues. The exchange of ideas between municipalities and the committee is valuable and lends itself to strengthening this collaborative group.

Councilman Frank Twardzik of Ocean View said, "For our quiet area of the resorts to be included in these conversations is important in learning the trends, concerns and pulses of the surrounding coastal communities. I am glad to have the opportunity to participate."

Vice Mayor Lew Killmer of Bethany Beach said, "To bring the various coastal-area officials and law enforcement together at the beginning of the season provides a tremendous opportunity to share ideas, gain insight to what your neighbors are facing and doing, and reassurance that everyone is on the same page."

Law enforcement representatives of each town also attended. Chief Keith Banks of Rehoboth enthusiastically commended the committee's efforts. He said, "To have the opportunity to work together, that is the only way we are going to be successful. By working with each other, we will be able to enforce [ordinances] properly and evenly. Again, it is a team effort." Banks also said he is extremely fortunate to work in Rehoboth and with a group of Realtors he can count on to be able to call, and they call him, whenever there is any concern.
