Republicans don’t represent our interests

May 11, 2017

The state Republican Committee showed its true colors by inviting the worst of their party to be the main speaker at their annual dinner with no one objecting.

Roger Stone is both a friend of Donald Trump and Russian President Putin, and he is an evil person. It is possible that he participated in the involvement of the Russian government in the election of Donald Trump as president.

First let me say in full disclosure, I am a Democrat and a member of the 14th Representative District Democratic Committee. What is important for the Sussex voter is that none of the Republican elected officials objected to the invitation or spoke out against it. It shows contempt to the voters who must vote in the coming election.

The questions Sussex County voters must ask themselves:

Do your current Republican elected officials represent your interests or the interests of Trump/Stone and their wealthy Sussex Republicans? Are the current Republican elected officials providing the necessary county services required in 2017 like protecting against unrestricted development and providing necessary roads and infrastructure?

Are the Republican elected officials representing you, or developers and large landowners, in demanding money for services like roads and protecting wetlands, and water/flood management?

If you have concerns, vote them out! Stone and his lot are not worthy of speaking to any political organization; he is a racist, an embarrassment to our political system, we have worked on for many years in Sussex County - example Return Day.

There is a term in politics, "comity"; we have lost it in our county. It is sad that our Republican senators, our Republican representatives and even our Republican members of Sussex County Council were all silent on Stone and do not represent your interests in a growing Sussex County in 2017.

Dennis Berlin
member, 14th RD Democratic Committee
