About 180 sponsors, guests, Habitat for Humanity staff and dignitaries attended the Lewes ReStore reception March 2. Touch of Italy provided food for the event; Baird, Mandalas, Brockstedt and Moore sponsored the bar; 3CNorth added music to the festivities; and more than 60 companies sponsored the opening of the Lewes ReStore. Testimonials were offered by Steve Hanzel, donor; Everett Moore, shopper; and Barbara Powers, volunteer.
Executive Director Kevin Gilmore remarked about the community effort it took to make the Lewes location a success, and everyone from donors to volunteers were thanked for their contribution. The grand opening celebration continued through the weekend. The new ReStore on Lewes-Georgetown Highway is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Gilmore gave an emotional speech about the mission of building homes, community and hope. He invited attendees to join in a habitat tradition of signing studs. "ReStore exists to generate funds to build homes. One hundred and fifteen families have been served by Habitat for Humanity. Strength, stability and self-reliance through the programs at Habitat." Promising to keep the legacy of the building alive, he thanked the Atallian and Stamper families for the building.
