Restored courthouse to open May 6

April 28, 2017

This past year, the State of Delaware refurbished Georgetown's Old Courthouse in a costly renovation including new shingles, reglazed windows, brightened trim, and extensive repair to the building’s roof, interior and chimney. The town's oldest building has taken on a refreshed appearance for the 2017 season.

Originally built on The Circle in 1792, the structure was initially restored for the national bicentennial in 1976. Only limited maintenance occurred in the 40 years following until last year's extensive rehabilitation.

The public is invited to view the Old Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6. Docents in Colonial regalia will be present to talk of the new improvement as well as the historic features of the building.

The Old Courthouse will continue to be open for visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., each Saturday through Labor Day. The attraction has abundant parking adjacent to the entry without charge, and is at 10 S. Bedford St., 100 feet south of Georgetown's central circle.
