Revival House to screen horror anthology film ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Oct. 19

Horror Trailer Challenge highlights local filmmakers
October 14, 2017

Halloween is a favorite holiday for the Revival House gang, so this year members are celebrating in grand style and offering a total of $1,500 to local filmmakers who can conjure up the creepiest horror film trailer as part of its Oh, The Horror! event Thursday, Oct. 19, at Milton Theatre.

In addition to the trailer challenge, all are invited to enjoy the 2010 cult horror anthology "Trick ‘r Treat," plus art and music, all serving as a kickoff for Milton's Zombie Fest. Competitors from across the state have seven days to script, shoot, edit and send in their scariest, spookiest horror trailers to be screened prior to the main feature. One winner will receive $1,000, with another $500 going to the evening's audience favorite, all courtesy of SoDel Concepts.

On the walls

Returning Revival House friend Keith Mosher of KAM Productions will feature his one-of-a-kind artwork printed on rawhide. Mosher will also have a number of items on sale from his popular line of T-shirts and hats, including the favorite 302 logo items. Mosher is a fixture in the southern Delaware art scene, known for his twisted take on classic images that create a unique style that has been popular with Revival House fans. On the stage

Ron "Stretch" Thompson, of Scrapple fame, will reunite with the Revival House from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Another returning Revival House favorite, Thompson will perform a set of solo acoustic rock guaranteed to get up the spirit for the haunting evening. Thompson will return to again to the theater Saturday, Oct. 21, as part of the Zombie Fest extravaganza.

On the screen

While the Revival House has always prided itself on highlighting local filmmakers, this month marks the first time it has offered a filmmaking challenge exclusively for the event and a chance to win a total of $1,500 with its Horror Trailer Challenge. Through the generous contribution of SoDel Concepts, one local filmmaker will walk home with $1,000, while another audience-favorite film will take $500 for the best three-minute trailer of the night.

Participating films will all be screened prior to the night's feature presentation, the cult horror anthology film "Trick ‘r Treat." The 2009 film stars Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin and Brian Cox, and weaves together five Halloween-inspired tales taking place within a seemingly friendly suburban neighborhood. There will be a small intermission during the film when the winners will be announced. All winners must be present to accept the awards.

"We've been receiving a steady stream of applications from all over," said Revival House's Rob Rector. "We are quite stoked to see what sort of scary talent we have in Delaware and share it on a big screen with a large audience." Cinematic scares and an evening of entertainment are only $10 (seniors and students pay only $5). For more information, go to revivalhousetheater.com.
