Richard Urban, retired master-chief

Senior Master-Chief, Ret., Richard Urban, 77, passed Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at home near Laurel. He was the son of the late Stanley and Irene Urban of Loraine, Ohio.

"Chief," as he was known to his local friends, was stationed at the former Lewes Naval Facility from 1977-80, and was proud to have served his country for 30 years, retiring near Laurel in 1987.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alicia; and a brother, Leslie.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marge; two daughters, Diane and husband David Vance of Olmstead Falls, Ohio, and Christy Urban of Royalton, Ohio; two stepchildren, Wendy Harpster of Milton and Ric Harpster also of Milton; one brother, Mark and his wife Linda Urban of Akron, Ohio; a stepnephew, Walt and his wife Kathy Stettler of Bloomsbury, N.J.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at a later date.
