Rob Waters’ short films to be featured in Ocean City screening

For the first time in his filmmaking career, Lewes resident Rob Waters will be the sole artist featured during a screening of short films Saturday, Dec. 16, in Ocean City.
Hosted by the Art League of Ocean City, Waters, owner of independent film production company W Films, said he will show four shorts and a few examples of his documentary style, which have been featured on the Cape Gazette website over the past year.
“I chose these shorts because I think they best represent my style as filmmaker, and how it has changed and grown over the years,” Waters said in a Dec. 12 email.
“Recovery” is about a retired boxer with a troubled past who is considering whether to train a mysterious young MMA fighter. This film was shot in 2013 and stars James and Thomas Keegan.
In "Need Change," viewers explore a day in the life of a pizza delivery driver, John, whose current employment has left him reevaluating past choices. This film was shot in 2016 and stars Bulldog from radio station Ocean 98.
"Interview, 7 p.m.," follows a young man, Tommy, through an unsettling interview with his father’s old acquaintance that may hold the key to his family’s future financial security. This film was shot in 2015 and stars SoDel Concepts founder Matt Haley.
Finally, sometimes the toughest part of the day is explaining it to a loved one. In the film “Pietas,” shot in 2017 and starring James Keegan, the main character tries to do just that.
Waters, who participated in the art league’s local horror shorts screening in October, said it’s weird to have his own film festival.
“I didn't ask for it, but it's definitely an honor. I feel like a 10-year-old kid having a birthday party, and I’m scared to death no one will show up,” he said.
Content in the films is not rated by the Motion Picture Association of America. Doors open at 7 p.m., with films starting to show at 7:30 p.m. There will be a $5 minimum donation for admission. All proceeds go to funding the 2018 Ocean City Film Festival season.
