Robert ‘Bob’ J. Collins, retired contractor
Mr. Robert "Bob" J. Collins, 80, of Gumboro, passed away surrounded by his family Monday, July 24, 2017.
Mr. Collins was born in Gumboro, to the late James N. and Georgia Anna Daisey Collins. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Carmel and Floyd Collins; and two sisters, Darlene Collins and Elsie Boyce.
Bob worked as a general contractor alongside of his brother Gerald Collins for 37 years. He was a lifetime member of the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Co. and attended Gumboro United Methodist Church. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and loved playing the dobro. Bob was a family-oriented man who loved kidding and carrying on, going to yard sales, and building crafts. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Evelyn Marie Dukes Collins of Gumboro; four children, Bruce Collins and his wife Jo Ann of Laurel, Steve Collins and his wife Lisa of Gumboro, Sharon Baker and her husband Darryl of Gumboro and Jeff Collins and his companion Katrina Kruger of Gumboro; two brothers, Donald Collins and his wife June of Millsboro, and Gerald Collins and his wife Dorothy of Gumboro; two sisters, Betty Rust and her husband Everett of Millsboro, and Carol Murray of Georgetown. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jason Collins (Shannon), Vance Collins (Sabrina), Blake Collins (Corey), Brandon Collins (Amanda), Jim Collins (Kate), Kyle Collins (Sarah), Suzanne Riddle (Jason), and Julie Collins (James); along with six great-grandchildren, his canine companion Brandy, and extended family members and friends.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 27, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Watson Funeral Home. The funeral and burial will be private.
