Robert D. ‘Bob’ Watkins, retired coach, teacher

Robert D. "Bob" Watkins of Carolina Shores, N.C., passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, in Wilmington, N.C.

Bob was born May 2, 1941, and was raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a graduate of Fairmont State College, Fairmont. For 25 years he taught social studies at Selbyville Middle School and Sussex Central Junior High School. He also coached basketball and football at Selbyville. For the last 14 years, he has been a resident of Carolina Shores, and a member of the Brunswick Civil War Roundtable.

Bob is survived by his wife, Donna M. Watkins; three daughters, Robin (Craig Conley) of Walnut Creek, Calif., Jodi (Dave Godshalk) of Delray Beach, Fla., and Melanie (Amish Patel) of Tampa, Fla.; one granddaughter, Reese Conley; two brothers, John D. Watkins (Saundra) of Frankford, and Bill Huber (Linda) of Stafford, Va.; and his beloved dog, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and William Huber, and Robert W. Watkins; and his brother Gary Watkins.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 17, at noon,in Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, Shallotte, N.C.
