Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe presents Hopkinson Scholarship

April 15, 2018

Beebe Medical Foundation manages and facilitates the awarding of the Louise Jarmon Hopkinson Scholarship. Hopkinson was a 1932 graduate of Beebe School of Nursing, now the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare. She served in the Army Nurse Corps and was a private-duty nurse at Beebe Hospital for many years. A generous bequest from Hopkinson’s estate provides a merit scholarship award for the spring semester to senior and first-year nursing students based on their academic performance.

This year’s recipients are senior nurses Cara Melendez of Millsboro, Chelsea Lehrer of Milton, and Rebecca Tillman of Newark; and first-year nurses Angela Baker of Georgetown, Kelly Staples of Laurel, and Kylie Powell of Rehoboth Beach.

The Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing is the only hospital-based nursing program in Delaware, and is accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. The diploma in Professional Nursing is awarded at the completion of the curriculum, qualifying graduates to be eligible for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing NCLEX examination, leading to licensure as a registered nurse. Beebe graduates consistently have high NCLEX pass rates.
