Ronald L. Fleetwood, treasured time with family

Ronald L. Fleetwood, 75, of Bridgeville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Christiana Care Health Systems in Newark. He was born in Seaford, June 26, 1942, son of late Everett and Mae (Whaley) Fleetwood.

Ron was a graduate of Seaford High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964-66. After 39 dedicated years, Ron retired from R & D with the DuPont Company in Seaford. Following his retirement, he was a much loved and respected member of the Parsell Funeral Family for 10 years, working as a funeral home associate. Ron was a member of Union United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and other offices in the church. He was also a member of the Bridgeville Lions Club for over 30 years, serving as president and treasurer. He enjoyed participating in their annual variety show, and delivered some memorable performances; most notably as the character "Ophelia". Ron served as a Lioness liason of Lions District 22D for the State of Delaware and was treasurer for the Bridgeville Apple-Scrapple Festival for 17 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 6 in Seaford and of the Seaford Alumni Association. Above all, Ron treasured time spent with his adored family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be genuinely and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Alma (Knowles) Fleetwood of Bridgeville; his daughter, Carole A. Baker and her husband Chris of Rehoboth Beach; his granddaughters: Elizabeth "Betsy" Baker Hoadley and her husband Kenny of Monterey Bay, Calif., and Erin T. Baker of Rehoboth Beach; his sister, Darlene F. Steele and her husband Ken of Seaford; his sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Tull of Bridgeville; his many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Yorkie, Gia.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m.,, at Union United Methodist Church, 2 N. Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will be held  Monday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m., at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.

All arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville.
