Rotary Clubs donate to Operation Finally Home project in Milton

Funds raised through Flags for Heroes
April 23, 2018

Five Rotary Clubs from southern Delaware donated a total of $5,000 toward the Operation Finally Home project in Milton.

Six Rotarians visited the construction site April 11 in Red Fox Run, Milton, to present the donation check to Lewes Building Company Principal Kathleen Leebel. She gave them a tour of the home which is scheduled for a dedication ceremony Friday, May 18. Lewes Building Company is serving as the general contractor for the project, and is working with local and regional company donations to make this mortgage-free home for veteran Shaun O’Brien and his family a reality.

Participating Rotary clubs are Rehoboth Beach Sunrise, Southern Sussex Delaware, Long Neck Sunrise, Milford, and Georgetown-Millsboro. For the donation, the clubs used proceeds from their respective annual Flags for Heroes fundraisers held for Memorial Day or Veterans Day.

“This was an awesome project in which Rotary could work to support our community,” said Rotary Assistant District Gov. Jack Riddle. “This just shows what people can do when they get focused on making something happen. This is what Rotary is all about.”

Operation Finally Home provides mortgage-free homes to service members and their families who have become wounded, ill or injured as a result of their service in the defense of this country. The program has delivered more than 130 homes since 2005, with 100 of them in the last four years. This is the first project in Delaware. For more information, go to www.operationfinallyhome.org
