Roy H. Brown, retired fire captain

Retired Fire Captain Roy H. Brown, 93, of Lewes, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at Cadia Rehabilitation Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro, surrounded by his family. He was born July 8, 1924, one of 11 children, in Johnson City, Tenn., son of the late Nelson H. and Sarah Guffey Brown.

Mr. Brown retired at the rank of fire captain in 1970 after 20 years of service to the City of Wilmington Fire Service. After retirement he worked for three years in the maintenance division for the University of Delaware Sports Complex. He was an excellent golfer, and enjoyed boating and fishing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II with service in the South Pacific.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 71 years this March 20, Thelma E. Brown; three daughters, Donna Friswell (Les Becka) of Townsend, Andrea Downs of Georgetown and Vicki Fahey (Joseph) of Newark; his brother, Fred Monroe Brown of Cleveland, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Monday, March 19, at 2 p.m., at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th St., Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to services.
