Ruddo Golf Invitational raises $10,000 for Tunnell Cancer Center

June 25, 2017

The Michael A. Ruddo Foundation recently presented Beebe Healthcare's Tunnell Cancer Center with a check for $10,000 from the proceeds of the Ninth Annual Mike A. Ruddo Golf Invitational held May 12. The annual tournament is held at the Ocean City Golf Club in Berlin, Md., the Friday before Mother's Day.

The foundation was established in memory of Mike Ruddo, who received cancer treatment at Beebe Healthcare's Tunnell Cancer Center. The foundation's mission is to raise funds for Beebe's Tunnell Cancer Center in recognition of the excellent and compassionate care Ruddo and his family received while he was a patient. Since its inception, the foundation has donated over $80,000 in an endowment fund established in Ruddo's name. This endowment allows the clinical team at the Tunnell Cancer Center to continue to provide the same level of care and compassion they gave Ruddo during his treatment, and it will provide income in perpetuity to meet the continuing needs of future patients. Every year, Mike Ruddo's wife Mabel and her children and grandchildren participate in playing and helping at the event.

Thomas J. Protack, vice president of development for Beebe Medical Foundation, said, "Beebe Healthcare and our Tunnell Cancer Center are so honored by this great legacy gift in honor of Mike. It is so inspirational to see the commitment of his family every year to raise funds and awareness about supporting our local cancer center here in Sussex County. Every year, members of Beebe's leadership look forward to playing in this golf outing and spending the day with the Ruddo family and supporters of Beebe. As the Tunnell Cancer Center looks to expand its services and reach, more than ever, we are going to need the continued support of great families like the Ruddos and many, many others to meet the needs of our growing community."
