Running of the Goat in Milford, the best of small-town America

Kids’ race, outdoor church services and music at Arena’s
August 22, 2016

The second annual Running of the Goat 5K in Milford Aug. 19, sponsored by Arena’s and benefiting the Boys & Girls Club, attracted 277 runners on top of a madhouse parking lot lap of little kids, which served as an undercard.

And the park was double booked, as a local Afro-American church held outdoor services under an adjacent gazebo. It was straight-up family night in small-town America.

The overall race was won by Alex Hampel, 23, of Middletown in a fast time of 16:24. Alex was followed by Polytech cross country runner Bryan Perry in 18:23, Steven Eshelman in 19:20, Janssen Pacarro in 19:39 and Gerard Jones in 20:33.

The top five on the women’s leaderboard read Mardiny Ung in 22:37 followed by Emily Holstein in 23:03, Brianna Bryfogle in 23:38, Amanda Meade in 23:38 and Rachel Simmons in 23:57.

The female 13 and under was won by Allyson Perry, 11, in 26:31. She was followed by 5-year-old Julia Johnson in 27:43. Eric Perry, 10, ran 24:41, while Emily Perry, 15, ran 24:40 and mentioned above Bryan Perry, 17, logged a time of 18:23. It wouldn’t be a Town of Milford without the Kenton brothers in the race; Casey Kenton ran 23:38 and Fletch Kenton finished in 27:08.
