Ruth Hudson Ayres, retired social worker

Ruth Hudson Ayres, 90, of Millsboro, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at Delaware Hospice, Milford.
She was the daughter of the late Harley Washington Hudson and Edna Lowe Hudson of Millsboro.
Ruth married her sweetheart, Lambert P. Ayres III May 16, 1948, the son of Harry and Amalia Ayres and the nephew of the late Sen. William H. and Catherine White Ayres, all of Millsboro.
She graduated from Millsboro High School in 1945, and later completed several college courses, including Spanish. Ruth was an office clerk at Millsboro Poultry, receptionist and later accounts receivable clerk at Houston White Lumber Company before joining Health and Social Services where she retired after 30 years, plus as a social worker and supervisor in food stamps.
While there, she worked in several departments, made up manuals for all three counties, worked as supervisor in food stamps, carried caseloads for aid to dependent children, and general assistance and determined eligibility of children in day care. She finally retired Jan. 30, 1989, to enjoy life with her husband.
She taught exercise class for many years at Huling Cove and showcased on TV as was asked, since everyone enjoyed them. They were convenient for all whether they wished to sit or stand.
Ruth enjoyed traveling with her husband on all kinds of trips by buses or cruise ships.
She is survived by one sister, Lois H. White and her husband Robert; niece Veronica White; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
