Rylie’s Dog Days of Summer 5K, staged Labor Day at the Lewes American Legion pavilion, was won by masters runner Mike Sewell, 48, in 18:26.

He was followed by John Niederhaus in 18:33, Pat Benko in 19:52, Jon Gannon in 20:13, Rob Cairncross in 20:14, Rick Poppleton in 21:43, Rob Dobscha in 21:44, Brendan Welch in 22:01 and Mark Redding in 22:05.

Breaking up the Harriers Club for Men was Kim Park, 33, of Bristol, Pa., who stomped her way to a 22:48 first-place finish in the women’s division. Grandma Jackie Quigley, 50, had Park lined up on the straightaway but couldn’t reel her in, finishing in 23:01.

“She was younger and quicker and a nice girl,” Quigley said, as the top two spoke afterward.

Carole Rosaco was third in 23:55 followed by Brandy Myers in 24:02 and Laura Marvin in 25:58.

Erin Dunlap, 11, from Milford ran a personal best time of 26:16.

There was a Kiddie K before the longer race, and speeches by state legislators Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, and Speaker of the House Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach, that were longer than the Kiddie K.

Rylie’s appearance at Legislative Hall in Dover was impactful in the legalization of medical marijuana in Delaware. Go to www.ryliessmilefoundation.org for in-depth information.
