Salvation Army Creative heARTs to be exhibited at Pat’s Pizza in Lewes Nov. 9

The Salvation Army, Developmental Disabilities Program announced their Third Annual Art Open House is set from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Pat’s Pizza in Lewes. The exhibit will feature art work from the artists of The Salvation Army Creative heARTs program.

The Salvation Army Creative heARTS started in 2007 and strives to give artists with developmental and cognitive disabilities the opportunity to hone their artistic and creative skills and help them find opportunities to show the community their artwork. They currently have about 15 active artists in the program. They work in watercolor, acrylic and pen and ink.

“The Creative heARTS program shows us that the imagination to create can never be confined. The reaction of these proud artists seeing their artwork displayed and sold has been priceless,” said Alex Kotanides, owner of Pat’s Pizza. The Creative heARTS artists have been displaying their artwork at Pat’s Pizza for over the past 3 years. Artwork is for sale year-round at the restaurant.

During the exhibit Pat’s Pizza is running a special that those who purchase a piece of artwork will get a free medium pizza. “Our goal is to sell out,” said Kotanides. Last year’s event sold more than 20 paintings.

The exhibit is an opportunity for the artists to show off their talents to the local community and many of the artists will be there to talk about the artwork.

“The artists have worked hard to display their talent and I hope people come out to see their accomplishments,” said Christy Cugno, Delaware Director of The Salvation Army Creative heARTs program. “We have developed a line of note cards using the artists’ original artwork. When the original artwork sells, the artists earn the money and when the cards sell, it helps us buy needed supplies for the program. We will have over 50 designs on display- both Christmas and all occasion cards. It is never too early to shop for Christmas presents or Christmas cards,” she said.
