Santa Cause 5K & Fun Run to be held Dec. 3 in Dewey Beach

Event at The Starboard to benefit Children & Families First
November 25, 2017

Get those jingle bells ready, because it’s nearly time for the 2nd Annual Santa Cause 5K & Fun Run at the Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach. The winter season is just around the corner, and that means bringing in locally focused fundraising for an event that will warm the heart. Founded by Children & Families First, the Santa Cause 5K & Fun Run is a holly, jolly celebration of all the organization does in supporting the most vulnerable families and their children in area communities.

This year’s event will begin at 12 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3, and will include new sponsorships, a competitive run, and a bigger post-run party. “We are always excited to see the growth these events have over the years,” said Steve “Monty” Montgomery, Starboard Restaurant owner. “When it comes to our kids, we are 100 percent behind their success, and this is one way we can support all kids in our community.”

Laura Rimmer, MSW, LSW, development officer for Children & Families First, knows firsthand that needs are growing in this area. She said, “Having Sussex County be recognized as strong and productive is valued by all of us. Our programs are the immediate connections needed to help vulnerable children and families right here in our own neighborhoods make positive changes, overcome challenges and be a contributing part of a thriving community.”

Partnering with the Starboard for sponsorship this year, Dogfish Head Brewery and M&T Bank are also joining in the fun. New this year is a competitive 5K race managed by Races2Run, but don’t worry, the one-mile fun run is back with special holiday surprises along the way.

Since it’s at the Starboard, the post-race party is going to be one to remember. To kick it off, Dogfish Head will be giving each runner (21 and older) a complimentary SeaQuench Ale following the race. There will be a buffet with light finger foods. In the spirit of family, there will be 15 games, activities, and crafts for the kids. The after party also includes a magician, DJ, pictures with Santa Claus, and some prize-winning games for adults.

Everyone is encouraged to throw on their best and brightest Christmas-themed attire, as costumes are a must for this event. Come out to The Starboard for the Santa Cause 5K & Fun Run starting at noon, Sunday, Dec. 3. There are lots of ways to be involved, from simply attending the North Pole After-Party for $10, to the one-mile fun run participation for $15 for kids under 12, or the competitive race for $25 for those 12 and up. Children under 4 attend free of charge, and of course, organizers will accept any donation with grateful hearts to benefit Children & Families First!
