Santa Fun Run at Starboard set Dec. 4

November 30, 2016

The Starboard Restaurant is known for fundraising, and at 12 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, it is participating in a special Santa Fun Run in partnership with Children and Families First. The event is a celebration of children in Sussex County and the work that Children and Families First does to identify needs early and help children live up to their potential.

The event will be held rain or shine, and registration opens at 10 a.m. Following the 1 mile run/walk, the Starboard will host a Winter Wonderland-themed after party, featuring carnival-style games, giveaways, crafts and photo booth, and pictures with Santa Claus. Light snacks will be served, with other food and drink for sale. The awards ceremony, complete with prizes, begins at 1 p.m.

Children and Families First is making lives better for low-income and high-risk families by supporting the most vulnerable, like pregnant women, as well as providing education and safe spaces for abused youth and their families. These programs are essential to the community, and The Starboard is proud to host the event that will raise money to directly impact those who need it most.

Laura Rimmer, development director for Children and Families First, is excited about the partnership. "We are so grateful to Monty, Keith and the whole Starboard team for their support in our inaugural year. Their long-standing commitment to the community and especially to child-related causes like ours is truly priceless," says Rimmer.

Despite the serious tone of the mission behind the event, The Santa Fun Run is playful. Participants are encouraged to dress up in festive costumes. They can get silly, absurd and downright jovial as they bring the whole family to celebrate the season. The walk will include fun stations along the way including Candy Cane Lane, where participants will get candy canes, and Mistletoe and Kisses, where participants can smooch those closest to them and chocolate kisses will be passed out. Strollers and wagons are welcome along the walk/run path.

Registration is $25 for adults and $10 for children. For more information, go to www.cffde.org, click on events and search Santa Fun Run.
