Second SoDelFest looks to be even better than first

September 5, 2016

I think a review of Southern Delaware Wine Food & Music Festival is in order; Saturday, Oct. 8, is the second edition. Folks, last year’s event was blockbuster with 300-plus tickets sold. More than $18,000 of the proceeds was donated to Rotary Global Eradication Effort and Lewes/Rehoboth Meals on Wheels. Those who participated were very pleased with the lovely appointments of the venue, Independence Hall, on Samuel Adams Circle just off Route 5, Millsboro.

Although this may read like hyperbole, it is fair to say most attendees were astonished by the wide variety of offerings from the many individuals, groups and businesses, who generously donated time, product and effort to make SoDelFest a success. During the run-up to the first event, several wrote asking me if the value was there. RRs are well aware I am a cautious shopper. QPR is very important to my assessment regarding wine. I’m happy to report that those who stopped by to say hi at the event, and those who followed up via email, were delighted with the quality to price ratio.

Please be advised that this year’s event is shaping up to be even better. Recent conversations with dynamo organizer Stacy LaMotta, who is the driving force behind the event, plus careful study of the program and offerings reassure me of that.  I am fairly certain this year’s event will sell out (500 tickets) due to the rave reviews sent my way following 2015. I would advise buying your tickets in advance again this year. Stacy and her committee have wisely limited ticket sales to ensure comfort and maximum exposure opportunities for attendees. You can find a thorough description and buy tix online at www.sodelfest.com.

I realize I am running on, but the enthusiasm after the 2015 event reminded me of the initial Punkin’ Chunkin.’ Those who were there at the first Chunk will remember it was a large bunch of locals hanging out in a field, having a ton of fun. These became emissaries of goodwill and word of mouth advertising. The following years, participating competitors and attendance at the event exploded.

Don't miss out.Mark your calendar or even better, buy your tickets now. Next week I will elaborate on the 95-point-plus wine tasting by Jackson Family Vineyards’ Larry O’Brien. Larry is a true expert and a Master Sommelier since 2001. This tasting was very well received last year. Again, it may be worthwhile to book in advance. The event is a cozy affair and limits participation. There will be one 100-point wine and four 95-point or above wines exposed for your evaluation.
