Sen. Ernie Lopez has our support

March 16, 2018

We read in last week's Cape Gazette that state Sen. Ernie Lopez will have opposition in this fall's General Election.

To his opponent, we send sincere best wishes. We are blessed to live in the greatest country on earth where a two-party system works, and works well.

We have taken pride in supporting Ernie since his first successful run for the state Senate. After six short years in office, Ernie has earned a reputation as one of the most conscientious and caring legislators in Delaware. A work horse, not a show horse. The high quality of constituent service delivered by the senator and his office is second to none, and his responsible voting record is balanced by a willingness to work across party lines to achieve shared concerns.

Have we agreed with Sen. Lopez on all of his votes? No, we have not; however, over the course of his Senate career, Ernie has demonstrated not just a willingness, but a strong desire, to listen to his constituents and gather the facts before casting his vote. He has been consistent and responsive, reasonable and thoughtful. Words that may not be glamorous in the world of politics, but ones that mean a great deal to those of us who care about bringing people together, not tearing people apart.

To Ernie we say, you have always had our support and the support of so many in our community regardless of party affiliation. Your past margins of victory are a testament to that, and your next victory in November will be also.

Thank you, Sen. Lopez, for staying positive in good times and tough times, and being the caring and competent public servant you are. As you always say, "onward and upward!"
