U.S. Sen. Tom Carper wrapped up a day of visiting Sussex County businesses March 24 with a game of bowling at the new Lefty’s Alley & Eats in Lewes.

“While Congress is not in session, I like to conduct what I call customer visits. I consider my constituents my customers, and I like to visit businesses and talk to owners, employees and customers about what we can do to help them,” Carper said, before unwinding from the long day.

In addition to the fun, Carper stopped by the business because of the partnership with the Small Business Association program that helped fund the project.

Lefty’s Alley & Eats opened in December 2016. The entertainment venue features 16 lanes of bowling, a central bar and full restaurant, a state-of-the art arcade, and a laser tag arena.

Lefty’s owners DJ Hill and Chad Moore shared details of the financing structure that is in place through the SBA’s Certified Development Company and 7(a) loan programs.

“Simply put, I don’t think this project would have happened without their involvement,” said Moore.

Carper commented on the oversized screens just above the lanes and sang along with some of the music. “I’ve never seen anything like this. And you playing Elvis Costello. I might just stay for awhile,” Carper said.
