Severe weather warnings in effect for Sussex

Tornado, thunderstorm warnings until 2:45 p.m.

Several weather warnings are in effect for Sussex County Aug. 7, including a severe thunderstorm warning, flood advisory and tornado warning.

The tornado warning covers portions of eastern Sussex County, including Millsboro, Selbyville and Ocean View, and is in effect until 2:45 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning also is in effect for easter Sussex until 3:15 p.m. as a severe storm heads northeast from Salisbury, Md., at 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood warning is in effect until midnight for the whole state, while a flood advisory is in effect until 6:15 p.m. National Weather Service radar shows up to two inches of rain has already fallen in some Sussex County areas, and residents should expect another inch or two of rain.

A special marine warning also has been issued, warning weather conditions in the Delaware Bay and coastal waters from Great Egg Inlet, New Jersey, to Fenwick Island may promote the development of waterspouts and wind gusts up to 40 knots. The special marine warning is in effect until 3 p.m.
