Shields Elementary takes to Cape Henlopen High School stage March 3-4 with ‘Annie Jr.’

February 27, 2017

Over 60 cast and crew members from the third, fourth and fifth grades at Richard A. Shields Elementary School will transform the Cape Henlopen High School stage into the streets of 1930s New York City to present "Annie JR," an adaptation of the beloved musical "Annie." Show times are Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, at 6 p.m. on both days. Tickets are available in advance (through March 2) at the Shields Main Office and at the door on both performance nights.

Shields students began rehearsing "Annie JR" in early November 2016 led by volunteer director Stephanie Whitcomb; parent volunteer/choreographer Nikki Groll; and Shields teache Hannah Petterson, along with numerous other parent volunteers.

"Each member of the cast and crew is excited to perform this iconic show," Whitcomb explains. "We can't wait for Shields families, staff, and the entire community to hear the amazing talent in these kids and to enjoy familiar song favorites like ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘Hard Knock Life' brought to life with amazing choreography."

"Annie JR" is adapted from the now-famous tale of Annie, a precocious, red-haired orphan who was chosen to live with America's wealthiest billionaire, Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. The show first opened on Broadway in 1977 and ran until 1983. It was nominated for nine Tony awards and won seven.
