Shirley Jean Ballard, family matriarch

Shirley Jean Ballard (Smith) was born in Chester, Pa., Aug. 18, 1934, and died Thursday, March 16, 2017.

She was married to Charles G. Ballard for 57 wonderful years; he passed away in 2012.

They lived in Ardsley Pa., Cape May, N.J., and finally in Lewes.

She was the matriarch in many ways; she had a great sense of humor, and especially loved her family and going to the beach. During her years in Lewes, she belonged to the Midway Lions Club and was fond of her ladies group, joining them for lunch or dinner weekly.

Mrs. Ballard leaves her children, Nancy G. Donlon and Jeffrey C. Ballard; grandchildren Shawn Marie Musgrove, Ryan D. Donlon and Christopher J. Ballard; great-grandchildren Emily M. Musgrove and Kaitlyn E. Musgrove; her sister Nancy G, Taylor; and brother Raymond A. Smith.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to the Midway Lions Club would be appreciated.
