Shirley M. Hitchens, retired healthcare worker

Mrs. Shirley M. Hitchens, 77, of Georgetown passed away at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018. 

Shirley was born in Selbyville July 23, 1940, to the late Walter and Travella McCabe Townsend. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William R. Hitchens in 1971; and a daughter, Brenda Hitchens Shockley in 2006.

Shirley worked as a union administrator in the healthcare field. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles and coloring. She also liked watching college football and NASCAR racing. Her favorite drivers were Bill and Chase Elliott. One of her most favorite pastimes was watching her Soaps. She was a very independent woman, loving mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son, Michael Hitchens of Georgetown; and a grandson, Cameron Heck of Seaford.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 5, at Carey's Cemetery in Millsboro, where she will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
