Small business Superstar application workshop set July 12

June 21, 2018

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and its Small Business Alliance are looking for exceptional companies to apply for the 2018 Marvin S. Gilman Superstars in Business awards. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the award is the chamber's most visible and important tribute to small businesses in Delaware.

Mike Uffner, chairman and CEO, AutoTeam Delaware, said, "Being a Superstar award-winner has helped us grow our business and achieve our business objectives. Plus, the publicity that comes along with being a winner has tremendous value, both internally and externally. I would encourage all businesses to try to earn this recognition."

The chamber launched the Marvin S. Gilman Superstars in Business Awards program in 1998 to recognize extraordinary small businesses and nonprofit organizations in Delaware. The winning companies have been heralded as models of small business excellence, commended for their success in such areas as strategic marketing, customer service, quality control and financial performance. They also excel as good stewards of the community, giving back and paying it forward through leadership and employee involvement.

Winners are judged in three categories based on number of employees, and a nonprofit category. Awards of excellence are also given to worthy applicants.

Interested members should register to attend a special workshop Thursday, July 12, in Wilmington, to learn how to craft a winning application with advice and best practices shared by the Superstars Selection Committee and past winners.

To register, go to www.dscc.com.

For a company to be eligible, it must be a member of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, have been in business for at least three continuous years and have 150 or fewer employees. Previous Superstars in Business winners may re-apply after five years. The deadline for entry is noon, Thursday, Aug. 16.

This year's winners will be awarded during a luncheon ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Hotel duPont Gold Ballroom. For more information, call 302-576-6564.
