Small Jewels exhibit at Peninsula to open with reception Nov. 25

November 17, 2017

The Peninsula Gallery in Lewes will host an opening reception for its Small Jewels exhibit from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 25. The gallery will feature 25 artists and about 100 paintings, together with some blown glass and ceramic pieces, in the annual exhibit designed for the Christmas season. All paintings are limited in size and price.

"Although many of the participants are represented by the gallery year-round, this show gives us the chance to invite new artists to take part," said gallery owner Tony Boyd-Heron. "It is an opportunity for us to introduce artists who may then become regular members of the gallery and to give our clients a greater variety of work to enjoy."

New this year is Patrice Drago from Annapolis, Md. Primarily an abstract painter, she also does representational work influenced by her love of nature. It is her use of vibrant color and energetic design that moves her soul.

Jim Rehak is a local artist who captures the seasonal changes of the Delmarva Peninsula through his landscapes. He is predominantly a plein air painter, and light is the key element in his work.

Also new is Sharon Strine from New York. Her work is a reflection of her fascination with life and the intimacy shared among human beings. Many of her works are based on vintage photographs of life at the beach or in an urban environment.

Heather Lynn Gibson started her career with Walt Disney's Animation Studio. She uses the contrasting power of complementary colors to harness visual excitement in her paintings, which are inventive and full of life.

Andrew Criss returns to the gallery after seven years during which he pursued his love of acting. He continues to act but has reached the stage where he feels he now has time to paint again. He will be represented by the gallery on a full-time basis starting in 2018.

Nina Mickelsen will bring her abstract work to the show for only the second time. A Finland native, she grew up with Nordic and Scandanavian design influences. Bright colors, bold shapes and crisp, strong lines are all features of her resin epoxy work.

The gallery is located in the Shops at the Beacon, 520 East Savannah Road. To view a selection of images from all the participating artists, go to peninsula-gallery.com. The show will run through the end of the year. For more information, call 302-645-0551.
