SoDel Concepts’ restaurants to compete in Girl Scout Cookie contest

February 24, 2018

It's Girl Scout Cookie month again at SoDel Concepts restaurants in Delaware. Chefs at each of the 10 locations will feature a specific Girl Scout Cookie in a special dessert. The hospitality group's chefs will compete for the coveted Matt's Girl Scout Cookie Cup from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 15, at The Clubhouse at Baywood. This is the fifth year for the friendly competition, which raises money for the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay.

"We buy hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies from local troops for the desserts, which are a big hit with our guests. They will often go to several restaurants just to see what each chef is doing," said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts, which also owns Plate Catering. "They're supporting a worthy cause; $1 from each dessert goes to the Girl Scouts."

The chefs, including the chef from Plate Catering, will bring their creations for guests at the free event to sample each dessert. Guests then vote for their favorite.

Every Girl Scout who wears their uniform or sash to the March 15 event will receive a SoDel Girl Scout Cookie Throwdown patch.

Chef Alex Martinez has won the trophy for two consecutive years, first for his lemon ice cream pie made with Savannah Smiles cookies, and then for his Do-si-dos peanut butter cheesecake.

Looking for a favorite cookie? The flavors have been distributed as follows: Fish On in Lewes (Trefoils), Plate Catering (Samoas), Matt's Fish Camp in Lewes and The Clubhouse at Baywood in Millsboro (Tagalong), Bluecoast Seafood Grill + Raw Bar in Rehoboth Beach (S'Mores), Lupo Italian Kitchen in Rehoboth Beach (Savannah Smiles), Matt's Fish Camp in Bethany Beach (Toffee-tastic), NorthEast Seafood Kitchen in Ocean View (Thin Mints), Bluecoast Seafood Grill + Raw Bar in Bethany Beach (Do-si-dos), Catch 54 in Fenwick Island (Samoas), and Papa Grande's Coastal Taqueria (Thin Mints).

"If the past is any indication, expect some fun desserts," said Doug Ruley, corporate chef for SoDel Concepts. "We are a very competitive crew, and we all want to bring home Matt's Girl Scout Cookie Cup."

The cup is named for Chef Matt Haley, who founded SoDel Concepts. For more information, go to www.sodelconcepts.com.
