SoDel Concepts holds second Summer Softball Showdown

July 30, 2016

When it comes to having fun, SoDel Concepts employees hit it out of the park July 19 at the hospitality company’s second Summer Softball Showdown. The championship, held at Rehoboth Little League, is a friendly rivalry among the employees at SoDel Concepts’ nine restaurants. This year there were six teams, and Squad Ruley won the showdown with a total of 13 runs.

“We had more than 70 employees participating in the showdown and four more teams than we had last year,” said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts. “The players had a blast, and their family and friends came to watch and eat pizza.”

In addition to Squad Ruley, led by Doug Ruley, SoDel Concepts corporate chef, the squads included: Tyler and The Temptations, led by Tyler Townsend, manager of Lupo Italian Kitchen in Rehoboth Beach; Sons of Pitches, led by Ronnie Burkle, a director of operations for SoDel Concepts; Medford Murderers, led by Kris Medford, general manager of NorthEast Seafood Kitchen; Team Big Wheels, led by Dan Levin, maintenance director for SoDel Concepts; and Patton’s Panthers, led by Matt Patton, also a director of operations.

Each team played two innings and then nominated a player to participate in a home run derby to increase the team’s score. Chris Conover of Bluecoast Seafood Grill slammed three in a row to seal the win for Squad Ruley.

“It was great to have the winning team,” Ruley said. “We weren’t the favorite going into the showdown. But we had a bunch of great players who all contributed, and that’s why our team was so successful.”
