December 8, 2017

SoDel Concepts, a Rehoboth Beach-based hospitality group, held its first professional development retreat Nov. 15 at The Clubhouse at Baywood. About 150 attended the event.

"Part of our mission is to nurture our team and to help them grow both professionally and personally," said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts which, in addition to area restaurants, owns Plate Catering as well as hospitality consulting and management divisions. "The goal of the retreat was to provide the tools and inspiration to help people succeed."

Michelle DiFebo Freeman, CEO of the Freeman Companies, was the keynote speaker. Breakout sessions were led by P.J. Kesmodel, coach of Cape Henlopen High School's championship girls' lacrosse team, who spoke about having fun while creating champions; Eunice Carpitella, an executive coach; Patti Grimes, executive director of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, who spoke on philanthropy; and Xavier Teixido, founder of Harry's Hospitality Group in Wilmington and past president of the National Restaurant Association, who spoke about success in the industry.

"The feedback we received was phenomenal," Kammerer said. "The attendees and speakers seemed to have fun and really get something valuable out of the day."

Nelia Dolan, marketing director for SoDel Concepts, praised the event staff at The Clubhouse at Baywood, which is a banquet and event venue as well as a restaurant. She said, "They made it look so easy. Everything was ready from the moment we walked in the door, and the changeover in the event room from breakfast to lunch was as smooth as can be."
