Sons of the American Revolution announces officers, awards

December 7, 2016

The Caesar Rodney Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution announced their 2017 chapter officers at the Maple Dale Country Club in Dover.

They are: Past President John C. Lewes, incoming President Matthew J. Barlow Jr., Vice President Thomas Urban, Secretary Galen M. Purcell, Registrar William C. Regli, Treasurer Joel B. Devich, Chaplain Rev. Dr. John Riley, and Historian William B. Richardson. They were sworn in by Troy L. Foxwell, president of the Delaware Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Barlow presented the Bronze Good Citizen Award to Robert Wade Burton. He is the service officer for VFW Post 7447 who visits veterans at home, hospitals and nursing homes. He also drove a couple who were unable to drive to the funeral of a deceased veteran friend.

An Award for Heroism was given to Gregory Adkins, a Laurel firefighter who saved two children from a burning home this past summer. He had no personal protective equipment on at the time when he saved the children. His act of heroism is an example to all Delawareans to help neighbors in a time of need.
