Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice to host hearing May 29

Discussion of current issues with representatives of the criminal justice system

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice is hosting as its May Town Hall Meeting the State of Delaware Criminal Justice Council's Sussex County public hearing at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, at the Heritage Hall at Trinity Faith Christian Center, 15561 New Road, Lewes.

The hearing is open to the public, and is intended to be a discussion of current issues with representatives of the criminal justice system. The primary purpose of the hearing is to hear from the public. The public's input is needed and is vital to developing strategies to improve the criminal justice process in Delaware.

The mission statement: The Delaware Criminal Justice Council is an independent body committed to leading the criminal justice system through a collaborative approach that calls upon the experience and creativity of the council, all components of the system, and the community. The council shall continually strive for an effective system that is fair, efficient, and accountable.

The Council consists of 29 members: members of the Governor's Cabinet including the attorney general, senior members of the judiciary including the chief justice of the Supreme Court and the presiding judge of the Superior Court, law enforcement members include the superintendent of the state police and the chairman of the Police Chiefs Council, and five members of the public, including private attorneys.
