Spring watercolors art exhibition on view in Lewes

April 18, 2018

The Delaware Watercolor Society held an artists reception, April 6, at Lewes Public Library with the Spring Open Judged Art Exhibit. This show was open to all participants, who were then judged by Anne Crown-Cyr, DWS president, and Isabelle Pizzolato, DWS workshops director. There was a variety of skill levels, topics and types of watermedia in this exhibition. Subject matter, skilled drawing ability, technical rendering and application were criteria for the judging.

First place was awarded to Marjorie Wuestner for “Harriet Tubman-American Abolitionist.” Judges said the rivulet style and sculptural quality of the rendering speaks to the strength and character of the subject and draws the eye into the work to study the complex technique. Second place was Daphne Blaker’s “Cherries,” a realistically rendered fruit in juxtaposition to the fabric. Third place went to Nancy Mysak for “Maine Rocks,” whose abstract quality creates interest and movement through the composition. Two merit awards were presented, to Angela Herbert-Hodges for “The Sisterhood of Moving Forward,” and Cheryl Wisbrock for “The Blue House.” Honorable mentions were presented to Elizabeth Collard for “Sad Eyes,” Susan Gray for “Flowers” and Ruth Ann Kaufman for “Night Owl.”
