St. John the Baptist sets Sunday School and book club Sept. 11, 19

September 6, 2016

St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Milton is offering two educational and enrichment opportunities to the public starting this month.

The parish book club will review Rebecca Kanner's "Esther: A Novel," at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 19. The book examines the biblical Esther and her courage to stand up for what is right at any cost. Led by retired teacher Sharon Lamando, the club is informal but follows a structured discussion during the hour-long meeting. Participants should obtain their own copies of the book which is available in Kindle, paperback and hardcover. That night, members will decide when to meet, roughly every other month, and what the next book should be.

Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, for ages 4 to 9. Jill Malloy, who has taught Sunday School nearly 40 years, and assistant Emma Brower teach substantive, Bible-centered lessons. Classes have covered Jesus' parables, biblical persons, the Ten Commandments - and are all designed to make learning fun. Sunday School conforms to the public school year, so when Sunday School does not meet in summer, field trips are scheduled.
