State winners announced for fire prevention contests

February 18, 2018

The Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association held its annual Fire Prevention Poster & Essay Contest awards program Jan. 14 for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The Cheswold Fire Company hosted this year’s event to honor winners at the state level.

Each grade level was given a different fire prevention theme to portray. Students in kindergarten through third grade created fire prevention posters. Students in fourth through eighth grades wrote essays. These were judged at the local and county levels. The work of first-place winners from each county went on to be judged at the state level.

The association thanks Delaware Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long for her support and attendance at the event.
