Strawberry festival to be held in Laurel May 20

April 29, 2017

The 11th Annual Strawberry Festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Laurel. Breakfast will be offered from 8 to 10 a.m., including local favorite scrapple sandwiches, and lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Baked goods, including world-famous galettes, will be found inside to eat in or take home. The lunch will feature choice of a chicken salad croissant sandwich, chicken salad platter or hotdog with chips. Desserts include strawberry shortcake, vanilla ice cream with strawberries, and homemade strawberry ice cream.

Just around the corner from St. Philip's on Sixth Street, the Masons of Hope Lodge will be returning this year with their signature oyster fritter sandwiches and cream of crab soup. They will be serving from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or while supplies last (they usually sell out).

Inside and out will be many crafters and vendors returning from previous years. Several new participants include John Camarote - bird carvings, Martin Johnson - handmade furniture, and the latest fashions from LuLaRoe. Outdoor festival activities include live music, children's activities and more crafters and vendors. The youth of St. Philip's will be serving their traditional strawberry lemonade. The Laurel Public Library will sponsor a children's activity and will also supply some library youth volunteers to help out with the Strawberry Festival.

Strawberries will be for sale for $4 a quart or $14 a gallon. Shoppers can buy plenty to eat right away, and buy more to cut up and freeze, or use for jams, jellies, cakes and pies.

All proceeds of the Strawberry Festival will be donated to people in need in the Laurel area and to organizations that serve them.
