Suburban Farmhouse to open in Milton

Coffee, home décor, and an artisan marketplace on tap
August 16, 2017

Kristen Latham wants The Suburban Farmhouse to be a source of inspiration for her patrons. “I want people to stop, get the drink which fits their mood, and look around and buy something that they really like,” said Latham.

“Milton is a small town, and I want the shop to have a hometown feel to it. A place to see your neighbors and recognize familiar faces.”

She said she has plans to offer an eclectic mix of concepts under one roof, part coffee house, part interior décor shop, plus an artisan marketplace. “I want to add an offering to the community that Milton currently doesn't have,” Latham said. “The shop will be coffee house meets Pottery Barn.”

Latham says she hopes to offer hot and cold espresso coffee drinks, frozen slushy iced teas, specialty drinks, cold brew coffee, pastries, quiches and sandwiches with gluten-free options. There will be a few small seating areas and take-out will be available.

Latham will oversee the coffee and home décor offerings, while the artisan marketplace will feature Sussex County wares. There will be 10 to 20 artisan spaces featuring jewelry, pottery, and other items.

The store will open in the space previously occupied by Federal Street Gallery and Espresso Bar. Landlord Walter Gagliano plans to add on to the building, creating additional retail space. Latham also plans to use a planned patio for outdoor seating.

Latham also runs a photography business, A Day in a Life Designs, as her full-time career, which she plans to continue part-time in addition to running The Suburban Farmhouse. Latham's husband, Marc, is her business partner for the new venture. It will be a family business, with both Kristen and Marc working there as well as her children.

The Suburban Farmhouse plans to open in October, with a soft opening in mid-September.
