Sue Marvel Pepper-Whapham, retired legal secretary

Sue Marvel Pepper-Whapham of Georgetown died peacefully Friday, March 16, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born in Lewes Aug. 11, 1948, to the late Joseph Lewis "Joe B" Marvel and Myrtle Parker Marvel.

Sue was a 1966 graduate of Georgetown High School and received an associate's degree in Executive Secretarial Technology from Delaware Technical Community College in 1985. Her first job was at Tunnell & Raysor Law Firm working as legal secretary for Jack Messick. She then began her career at Delaware Tech in March 1968 as a senior secretary to the dean of student aervices and retired June 28, 2002, after working for two deans of development: Charlotte Langrall and Tim Kavel. While at Delaware Tech, she was team "MOM" for the baseball and softball teams, and she reported all game scores to local media. Her love of sports took her to work part-time at Sports at the Beach during retirement. Sue also worked part-time for Moore & Rutt attorneys in the real estate department.

Her memberships include Georgetown AARP, Wesley United Methodist Church, Georgetown Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, CHEER Choir, Georgetown Fire Company Auxiliary, and she was inducted into Delaware Tech's Hall of Fame in 2016.

She loved God, her family, all types of sports, singing and music. She had a wonderful voice and enjoyed singing hymns at church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph "Butch" Burton.

Sue is survived by her husband of 19 years, Vince, her sons, Eric (Cathy) and Joey, her sister-in-law Holly Marvel, all of Georgetown; her nieces, Shannon McNaught (Corey) and Kelsey White (Cody and Rowan) and nephew, Michael Marvel (Allison).

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22, at 12:30 p.m., in the chapel of Wesley U.M. Church, 102 E. Laurel St., Georgetown, where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Georgetown.
