Suitland Rams batter Cape football 40-0

Vikings 0-6 against teams across Chesapeake Bay since 2010
September 18, 2017

Suitland is a mile south of Washington, D.C., an unincorporated community in Prince George’s County that is highly recruited by private high schools and colleges because of a talent pool that has produced players at all levels of sports, like NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant and LaMont Jordan, former Maryland and NFL running back.

The Rams, a Maryland 4A school, came into Cape Sept. 15 undefeated at 2-0 and left undefeated, with a 40-0 foot-stomping of the Vikings in front of a large home crowd after leading just 14-0 at the half.

Cape’s offense could do nothing with the Suitland defense that seemed focused on stopping the fullback game on every snap.

Cape has played nine Maryland opponents over the last nine years, producing a record of 3-6, but those three wins came against Eastern Shore teams - two over Washington High and one over Cambridge South Dorchester.

Schools across the big bridge are 6-0 against Cape with a scoring advantage of 81-0 in the last two games and 129-12 in the last three years.

“We haven’t been able to fill out the schedule with Delaware teams,” said Cape Athletic Director Bob Cilento. “There are teams that don’t want to play us or other teams our coaches don’t want to play.”

On the same night elsewhere in the state, Sussex Tech lost to Salesianum 36-10, while Smyrna lost to Franklin High School of Maryland 38-28. Sussex Central won against Eastern Shore team Queen Anne’s County 28-17.

The Northeast High Eagles (2-1) will come to Legends Stadium Friday, Sept. 22. Both Suitland and Northeast are Division 1-sized schools, according to Delaware criteria.

“We are going to make some personnel changes before next game and hopefully get a couple guys healthy we didn’t have for Suitland. In the first half, we didn’t play well, but only trailed 14-0,” Collick said. “I know in football a loss like that reveals character, and some of them are in the stands. I can tell you this ain’t no reality TV show, it’s a football team, and we will always do what’s best for the team.”
