Sunrise Rotary empty bowls event to help fight hunger April 29

Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary and SoDel Concepts will host the 3rd Annual Empty Bowls Sussex County event from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 29, at the Clubhouse at Baywood in Millsboro.

Held in collaboration with the Rehoboth Art League’s Pottery Studio and School, this annual family-friendly event was established to increase awareness about the issue of hunger and food insecurity, and to help local organizations fight hunger.

“Sadly, there are too many Delaware children – 1 in 5 – who may not have anything for dinner without our help. By participating in the third Annual Empty Bowls Sussex County, you’ll have the opportunity to fill empty stomachs for months to come, and enjoy delicious soups from SoDel Restaurants,” said Dr. Uday Jani, Rotary board member.

The Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club invites attendees to select a bowl from hundreds of locally crafted ceramic bowls, have it filled with gourmet soup and bread, and listen to live music by popular local musicians while enjoying a meal.

Volunteers from Rehoboth Art League have spent hundreds of hours throwing handmade clay bowls for the event. “We could not hold such an amazing event without the help of the Rehoboth Art League and our sponsors,” said Gail Dejmal, event chair. “I am truly amazed at the craftsmanship and beauty of the bowls.”

The Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club mission is to better the lives of the youth of the immediate communities of Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Sussex County at large.
