Sussex County MS Shore Group to hold annual walk May 18

May 7, 2018

The Sussex County MS Shore Group will hold its second annual MS Foundation Walk beginning at 5 p.m., Friday, May 18, at the clubhouse at the Colonial East community behind Panera Bread, Rehoboth Beach. Funds raised directly help those suffering day to day with multiple sclerosis. The walk’s grand marshal again this year will be Kody O’Bear, known as Delmarva’s community bear. The official ambassador for the Kody’s Kids organization, Kody O’Bear inspires kids to grow up smarter, healthier and kinder.

The Zoom-Zooms walk team has been the top MS fundraiser in Delaware for the last five years, and team members are attempting to maintain that ranking this year. The Colonial East clubhouse is at 19 Poolhouse Lane, Rehoboth Beach. For more information or to donate, call Jamie Colvett at 302-684-4513 or email jamiecolvett@comcast.net. Checks should be made payable to the MS Foundation and may be dropped off at the walk site or mailed to Jamie Colvett, 112 Sylvan Drive, Milton, DE 19968.

The walk can be one mile or three miles, depending on the walkers’ abilities. Instead of walking, participants may help organize and administer activities at the clubhouse and cheer walkers on as they return. A potluck dinner will be available following the walk. Members and friends of the MS Shore group will be on hand to assist.

Through the years, the Shore Group has gained members as more people with MS have learned about it. MS is an incurable, often debilitating disease that attacks the central nervous system. The Sussex County MS Shore Group helps those with the disease keep active and stay aware of new developments to help with their condition. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month at the parish hall of St. George's Chapel on Beaver Dam Road four miles west of Five Points. Most months are devoted to educational programs with topics and speakers chosen by members, while others are scheduled for fun and fellowship activities.
