Sussex Family YMCA partners with County Bank to provide camp opportunities for local youth

September 27, 2016

The Sussex Family YMCA announced a partnership with County Bank that will provide an opportunity for local youth to attend summer camp.

"Each year, the YMCA serves over 5,000 participants in a variety of programs," said Lauri Weeks, executive director of the Sussex Family YMCA. "There is a great need in our community for camp opportunities that enrich, grow and, ultimately, change the lives of children - and we are very grateful to County Bank for their generosity and continued support for once again helping us make this experience a reality for deserving children."

County Bank has continued to award funding for an annual scholarship to send a Sussex County youth to Camp Oowassis, a day camp at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach, or Camp Tockwogh, the YMCA of Delaware's overnight camp in Worton, Md., on 309 acres spread along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline. Both camps foster healthy living and social responsibility through the development of independence, confidence, lifelong learning and character in youth, teens and families.

Sandi Walker, assistant vice president and branch manager of the Rehoboth Beach branch of County Bank, enjoyed the costumes and activity of a morning at Camp Oowassis. Walker is the mother of two sons who participated in YMCA Youth Development Programs including summer camp for over 11 years. Walker said, "The Sussex Family YMCA has been a big part of my family's life. My boys have a lot of great memories and met a lot of friends through the YMCA. Some are still friends today."
