A sweet spot in presidential politics

Snyder’s Candy running straw poll with Trump and Clinton chocolate bars
August 24, 2016

Snyder’s Candy has been operating an unofficial poll of presidential candidates since the primaries, declaring Donald Trump is currently ahead of Hillary Clinton in an unscientific poll of candy bar sales.

“Trump is definitely outselling Clinton, at least two to one,” Snyder’s Candy owner Jeff Balk said. “But we found that when someone buys a Trump bar, they are not necessarily a devoted fan. Many are saying they are Trump haters and want to stomp on it, or bite his head off.”

The longtime candy store on Rehoboth Avenue is currently offering Clinton and Trump-inspired milk chocolate candy bars with labels featuring the mugs of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on fictitious currency.

On these unofficial polling grounds, Hillary Clinton is the face of a $3 bill, which reads “Trust Me,” while Donald Trump is the face on a $1,000,000,000 that reads “Because I’m richer than you.”

Balk said sales have been swift between his Rehoboth store and its online presence. Many times, he said customers will buy one or two of each bar for their own novelty election purposes, and during the Republican Convention in Cleveland, Balk sent an order of 30 Trump bars to Ohio.

The 1.75-ounce milk chocolate bars cost $2.75 in the store, and the owner said he will keep them in stock through the election, or until supplies run out.

“Many people like to look, laugh and discuss the bars, but not necessarily buy them,” Balk said. “Its a straw poll. I don’t believe the results are scientific, and many are buying them as a joke.”

Snyder’s Candy is located at 60 Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. For more information, call 302-226-3994 or go to www.snyderscandy.com.
