It may have taken a little longer than expected to complete, but Leanne Silicato Prosser said she’s proud of how Silicato Development’s Taormina Square in Long Neck is turning out.

“This is our first project in Long Neck, and we’d rather take a little more time to get it right from the beginning,” said Prosser during a recent tour of the new retail development at the intersection of Route 24 and Indian Mission Road, behind Wawa. “We want this to be a great Long Neck destination.”

Totalling 32,000 square feet, Prosser said Taormina Square is expected to be completed in the next four to six weeks. The development will be bookended by two restaurants each with 3,150 square feet of indoor seating and 1,700 square feet of patio seating – a Yellowfins Bar & Grill on one end and a yet-to-be-named Italian restaurant on the other. In between, there will be a nail salon, liquor store, Blooming Boutique, Treasures and more.

“This is going to be something Long Neck hasn’t seen,” said Prosser. “New and upscale. We want people to come get a gift, buy a bottle of wine or enjoy a meal. So many locals have stopped by during construction, and they’re looking forward to the opening. That type of excitement is fueling this project.”

Prosser said the name Taormina Square pays homage to the small town in Sicily her family hails from.

Abutting Taormina Square will be Carillon Woods, a 204-unit, age-restricted apartment complex. This Ocean Atlantic Companies project recently broke ground and is on track for completion in late spring 2019.

Prosser said part of the design process for Taormina Square included making the development accessible to the tenants of Carillon Woods.

Perhaps the biggest change associated with the project will be the relocation of Silicato Development’s office to Taormino Square. Started by Dennis Silicato, Prosser’s father, the commercial developer has been based in Milford for 30 years.

The new office will face a 3,000-square-foot courtyard that splits the middle of the development in half. Prosser said for many years the company stayed away from beach development, but the family, including Silicato, now lives down here, so moving the office makes sense.

“We’ve been waiting for the perfect time to move, and this is it,” said Prosser.
