Terry L. Hollis, retired corrections officer

March 23, 2018

Terry L. Hollis, 63, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, March 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving husband and daughters.

Terry was born in Salisbury, Md., daughter of the late Roland Smith and Phyllis Davis.

She worked for the State of Delaware from 1985-2008 and retired from Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown as a correctional officer. Terry had a huge heart for children as she and her husband were longterm foster parents to several children over the years. They made such an impact on some of those children, and some still refer to them as mom and dad even into adulthood.

Terry dearly loved her family, and enjoyed every minute spent with them. She especially enjoyed taking Caribbean cruises with her husband. Terry was known for her unfiltered candor, and had no problem voicing her opinion. Everyone who knew her knew how special she was, and her smile would light up a room.

In addition to her mother and father, Terry is preceded in death by three sisters; Deena Wood, Deborah Paquette and Sandra Hastings.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, James Hollis; two daughters, Pamela Moore and Michelle Phillips, both of Georgetown; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sharon Collins (Vaughn) of Salisbury, Brenda Hardy of Halethorpe, Md., Donna Jackson of Bridgeville and Deanna Thomas (Karl) of Hurlock, Md.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, March 26, with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m., immediately followed by the funeral service in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. Burial will be held privately.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the kind and compassionate care Terry and the family received during her final days. They have requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Terry's memory be forwarded to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
