Thanks for article on seismic testing

July 25, 2017

Thanks for your important article (July 8, Cape Gazette) on local environmentalists opposing seismic air-gun blasts along our Atlantic Coast in anticipation of finding and drilling for oil. These air blasts are known by scientists to harm ocean animals directly. If drilling is approved, inevitable oil spills will affect these creatures and our beach economy including worsening of climate change with its associated flooding.

Wisely, the article printed the URL for the website of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. I discovered a process map there showing what must be done to get the permits approved including a 30-day public review opportunity. All of us need to pay attention and respond when prompted to that review. Do not take this lying down. You can collapse sobbing on the beaches or fight back.

Other involved agencies include the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Counsel on the Ocean that is preparing for a vulnerability and resilience study due January 2018. Let your voice be heard!

No testing and no drilling in the Atlantic!
