Kudos to Coastal Concerts, the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, and countertenor Augustine Mercante and pianist Hiroko Yamazaki for presenting a superb recital Jan. 13 in Milford.
This was part of Coastal Concerts' free outreach program bringing classical music to venues other than the usual concerts in Lewes. Mr. Mercante selected a wide variety of musical styles for his recital ranging from 17th century Henry Purcell to the Broadway musical of Stephen Sondheim.
Mr. Mercante's pitch was impeccable and he clearly appreciated each selection's emotional content. Ms. Yamazaki was a most sensitive and capable accompanist. The program was well received by the audience as demonstrated by their standing ovations.
Thank you to Coastal Concerts for bringing classical music to Sussex County!
