I have been following the 2017 Dewey Beach election, and I can't help but wonder who wrote the playbook for the newcomer candidates, the mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, who said, "You never let a serious crisis go to waste."
If you listen to what the newcomers have been saying and writing, the only major problem that Dewey has is the so-called "crisis" surrounding the "still to be proven" accusation of the town manager. At least that's what they want you to focus all your attention on.
What about the noise, over pouring of alcohol, fights, group houses, parking, traffic, safety, finances, budget, rental license scammers, flooding, beach replenishment, future revenue sources, etc., etc., etc.
The only candidates who seem to think there is more to Dewey than this salacious scandal are Dale Cooke and Diane Hanson. These two candidates are seasoned commissioners with years of experience.
They have managed through the hard times and good times of Dewey Beach. Most importantly, their campaign is not being funded by a special-interest group, Dewey's bar cartel.
Unfortunately, for legal reasons Dale Cooke and Diane Hanson can't address the details concerning accusations of the town manager, but even if they could it would not be the only topic of their platform. Both Dale Cooke and Diane Hanson have a 360-degree view of Dewey Beach, not just the 10-degree myopic view of the newcomers.
Don't be distracted by the shiny bright object that is being waved in front of your eyes; vote for proven experience.
Remember a vote for the newcomers is a vote for Dewey's bar cartel. Vote for Diane Hanson and Dale Cooke.
